"Hear What You've Been Missing: how to cope with hearing loss" The author of this book is an audiologist, and director of The Hearing Centre in Albany, New York, USA. The book is written in an easy-to-follow, question and answer format, which allows the reader to quickly find the answer to any questions that they have. It is written in easy-to-read language, and the explanations of complex subjects such as how the ear works, and the different types of hearing loss are very easy to understand, even for the lay person. It addresses most of the areas that people with an acquired hearing loss have questions about, and covers each area very comprehensively. These include: The book is an excellent resource of information for people who have just discovered that they have a hearing loss - or even those that have known for sometime. It informs, and at the same time reassures those with a hearing loss. There are numerous diagrams, and a very good list of 12 communication strategies. The appendices contain information that it mostly specific to the USA, but appendix 1 is a very useful glossary of medical terms related to hearing loss, and appendix 7 is a simple five-minute hearing-test.
